Welcome to
Springfield
Springfield is Illinois's capital and the crown jewel of Illinois Route 66 — home to the Lincoln Home National Historic Site (the only home Abraham Lincoln ever owned, free), the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum, the Old State Capitol (where Lincoln gave his 'House Divided' speech), and Lincoln's Tomb at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
On the Route 66 dining side, the Cozy Dog Drive In (1949) is the inventor of the corn dog on a stick — a Route 66 pilgrimage stop.
