You don’t have to go all the way to the North Pole to meet Kris Kringle. The Santa Claus Museum—located in the southwest Indiana town of the same name—has you covered.

The family-friendly museum goes back in time to trace the interesting history of both the town and the man, and includes exhibits dedicated to how the town got its festive name, antique toys, and how tourism has grown over the years.
Letters to Santa
Little ones will love the chance to write and send their own letters to Santa—and if they make sure to include a return address, they’ll receive a response from the Big Guy in December. Shh, don’t tell the kids, but a big group of volunteers work around the clock each year to make sure that every tyke’s letter is answered. Museum visitors can also rifle through letters from years past.
Explore
The museum is part of an entire village, so once you’re done exploring the exhibits, check out the Santa Claus Church, which was built in 1880, and pose for your family Christmas card photo in front of the 22-foot-tall Santa Claus statue.

The rest of Santa Claus is just as crazy about Christmas, too. In the mood for adventure? There’s even a theme park, Holiday World complete with roller coasters, slides, teacups, and live shows. And in the warmer months, Splashin’ Safari has wave pools, tubing rides, and water coasters galore. And if you think the town is just for kids, think again. Grown-ups can head to Monkey Hollow Winery and Distillery for a tasting and gourmet snacks.
