Located in the heart of the United States, Voyageurs National Park is Minnesota’s only national park, and consists of some of the oldest rocks in the world and some of the most extraordinary forests in the country. Voyageurs National park is a playground for all who love the water. Ditch your car and be prepared to go on a journey through the North Woods water highways! The National Park is best known for its unique water resources, making it popular for fishing, kayaking, boating, and more.

For those taking a road trip to Voyageurs National Park, you can get there by State Highways 53 and 11, which leads visitors to the gateway communities and visitor centers. Heading over without a boat? Not to worry! The park provides several canoe programs and tour boat programs aboard two 22-passenger pontoon boats from mid-June through late August.

For the more experiences boaters, there are several bays and channels available for day use to explore on the park’s four major lakes – Sand Point Lake , Kabetogama Lake, Namakan Lake, and Rainy Lake.

The best part of the park is that it can be visited any time of the year, offering different experiences for each season. Visitors can explore a beautiful fall in the park, which provides a scenic atmosphere to explore the park’s many trails. Fall foliage comes into full effect between mid to late September. In the winter, the lakes are frozen but the snow provides several opportunities for snowmobiling and snowshoeing, just to name a few. Visitors can also enjoy endless ski-trails and the chance to watch wildlife.

Regardless of where you’re from or how long you’re staying in Voyageurs National Park, there are endless opportunities to explore, hike, relax, fish and so much more! This water-based park is best explored via watercraft, which are available for rent at Crane Lake, International Falls, Ash River and Lake Kabetogama.
