On your next road trip across the United States, you are likely to come across some of the best aquariums in the world. Cities like Tampa, Florida, Columbus, Ohio and Outer Banks, North Carolina are home to just a few aquariums to visit.

Baltimore National – Baltimore, Maryland

Since its opening in 1981 as a nonprofit aquatic education and conservation organization, the Baltimore Aquarium has become quite a gem. Also, this location is ranked one of the nation’s top two aquariums and is a top paid tourist attraction in Baltimore. The popular exhibits include aquatic beauties of over 20,000 fish, birds, amphibians, reptiles and marine mammals. Most noteworthy are the award-winning habitats the marine animals live in.

Monterey Bay Aquarium

Located on the beautiful California coastline with 34 galleries of over 550 species is the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The aquarium features a variety of exotic sea creatures you’ll have the opportunity to see up close and personal. In addition, behind the scenes tours are available for those seeking additional interaction with these sea creatures.

Georgia Aquarium – Atlanta, Georgia

Built in 2005 and one of the largest aquariums in the world is the Georgia Aquarium. This aquarium is heavily dedicated to research and conversation. At this location, you can view six different galleries featuring over 120,000 animals. Atlanta’s must-see exhibit is the tank holding majestic whale sharks, which are the world’s biggest fish. These whae sharks can grow to over 30 feet long.

Audubon Aquarium of The Americas – New Orleans, Louisiana

If you’re looking for an interactive day in the French Quarter, then the Audubon Aquarium is a perfect destination. The aquarium features over 530 species of sea creatures, including a Gulf Coast exhibit, Amazon Rainforest Exhibit, and Penguin Exhibit. Also, you’ll have the opportunity to feed stingrays and more. This location is open seven days a week, so you shouldn’t miss your chance to visit.

Oregon Coast Aquarium – Newport, Oregon

Nestled away in Newport, OR is the Oregon Coast Aquarium. If you’re familiar with the classic film Free Willy, then this location is a must visit. It features an exhibit called Passages of The Deep. This exhibit gives visitors the opportunity to “sleep with the sharks.” You will spend the night in a 360-degree glass tank surround by sharks and other marine life.

SeaWorld – Orlando, Florida

One of the most impressive, sea-theme attractions in the world is SeaWorld. With multiple locations and a wide variety of aquatic life, you must visit this aquarium. Most noteworthy is the fact that it’s not strictly an aquarium.You can enjoy roller coasters, attractions, splash rides, food and more.
