Sedona is arguably one of the most interesting and beautiful destinations in the Southwest. The town itself is surrounded by impressive red rocks, so there’s a beautiful view from practically anywhere. You’ll hear lots of talk about the vortexes/vortices (referring to the sacred places where the red rocks stand); you’ll see lots of crystal shops that are said to promote healing and spiritual cleansing; you’ll see avid hikers, bikers and rock climbers; you’ll feel like you’re in an awe-inspiring place, yet feel completely at home. Sedona is easily one of our favorite places to visit in the Southwest.

Top 5 Things To Do

Stroll Main Street
As you enter the town of Sedona on Highway 89A from the north, the highway suddenly transforms into the town’s main street, with quaint shops lining the road. Be sure to walk along this section of 89A to shop for handmade goods, art galleries, cafes, and world-renowned crystal shops.

Watch The Sunset
There’s nothing like seeing the sunset on red rocks. As the sun goes down, the rocks change hue and almost seem to be made of fire. For the best view of Capitol Butte, drive up to the lookout on Airport Road and watch the light show on this Sedona landmark. You could even stay at Sky Ranch Lodge, which has a private viewing courtyard for guests.

Drive Red Rock Loop Road
Some of the most iconic red rocks in Sedona can be seen from the drive along Red Rock Look Road. Cathedral rock is best viewed in the afternoon and as the sun sets, so that the colors of the rock are more vibrant. This drive also offers access to Red Rock State Park.

Take a Hike
For those looking to enjoy a shorter, easy-moderate hike in Sedona, consider either Bell Rock Pathway or Broken Arrow Trail. For a longer hike, consider a trip along the 7.1-mile Boynton Canyon trail. Each of these spectacular hikes will feature impressive views of red rocks, the opportunity to see wildlife and more.

Visit Tlaquepaque
Modeled after an authentic Mexican village, Tlaquepaque is a great destination for shopping and dining in Sedona. Art-lovers go to Tlaquepaque to explore the many art galleries in the village as well.
