There are actually a ton of destinations that host popular races each year. Take a look at some of the top horse racing destinations in America.

Kentucky Derby, Louisville, Kentucky

If Louisville is known for anything, it absolutely has to be the Kentucky Derby – one of the most famous horse races of the year. Grab a fancy hat and hit the road to Louisville for the Derby this year! This historic event is also known as the “Greatest 2 Minutes in Sports.”

The Preakness Stakes, Baltimore, Maryland


On a Saturday in May, the city of Baltimore becomes a horse town. Also known as the second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore is a famous event that many flock to for the race.

Belmont Stakes, Elmont, New York

To put is simply, Elmont is a horse racing community, so there’s no doubt that this horse race destination is one you don’t want to miss out on. Home of the Belmont Stakes, Elmont hosts the third and final leg of the Triple Crown.

Travers Stakes, Saratoga Springs, New York


Also located in New York, is the Travers Stakes in Saratoga Springs. Their Midsummer Derby, which is the oldest major thoroughbred race in America.

Breeders’ Cup World Championships, Churchill Downs, Kentucky

Held every November, there’s no way to deny that Churchill Down becomes one of the most popular horse race destinations in America. Popular for its Breeders’ Cup World Championships, this event is the richest prize money events in sports.

Although California may not exactly be the first place that comes to mind when talking about horse race destinations, it is actually one of the most popular on the West Coast. Taking place in April, the Hollywood Gold Cup located in sunny Inglewood, California is one of the most famous races on the West Coast.

Sugar Bowl Stakes, New Orleans, Louisiana

Aaaaaah, New Orleans. Home to so many wonderful things about the South, especially right around Christmas when the Sugar Bowl Stakes takes place. This is considered a preparation for the Kentucky Derby.
