We all know that classic movie from our youth, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, where Ferris (played by a young Matthew Broderick) decides to skip school for a day and gets into all sorts of fun and hijinks in Chicago. We liked that movie so much, we figured you can do the same thing too!

If nothing else, there are three must see activities for anyone planning on including Chicago in a road trip. The first is, of course a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. Secondly, you have to spend some time on Lake Michigan. Finally, you have catch a show at the Second City stage to have a laugh.

First, we have to grab a day game at Wrigley Field to see the Cubs play. The second oldest park in Baseball (behind Fenway in Boston), Wrigley was built in 1914 and is famous for ivy walls in the outfield.

You will be able to grab public transport to and from the stadium rather than having to worry about parking. If the Cubs aren’t in town, not to fear, the park offers tours so you will be able to go inside and still check it out.

Even though Chicago looks like it has a nice beautiful water view, it’s actually sitting right on Lake Michigan, one of the five great lakes. It provides for a beautiful walking area, up Michigan Avenue, and then towards the Navy Pier.

From there, you will be able to see people sailing, fishing and paddling around the lake. If you are up for it, find a nearby kayak rental, and spend a few hours out on the lake either via a guided tour or just paddling around. It will offer amazing views of the city.

Finally, you will want to finish your tip with a night at Second City, an improv theater for a show. This is where some of the funniest people in TV now started, people like Tina Fey, Steve Carell and Steven Colbert.

It will be the perfect way to finish of your day in Chicago, enjoying a few laughs among friends.
