Even though it might feel like Halloween just passed, once we hit November, many cities across the country begin to focus on Christmas. Even though you might still be going through all that extra candy, many are excited to start thinking about the holiday season.

And while it might not just be snowing just yet, that doesn’t mean people aren’t excited to start getting out the tinsel, wrapping presents, and thinking about their Christmas trees. So, in this post, we’re going to tell you all the best spots across the country to catch some Christmas tree lighting events.

Washington, DC

There’s no doubt one of the biggest (and most famous) Christmas tree lighting events in the country is in the nation’s capitol, Washington, DC. Join President Obama and the First Family for his last tree lighting on December 1st.

Atlanta, Georgia


Atlanta has a number of different events running from mid-November to the start of the New Year. Not only is there a tree lighting event on November 20th, but there are also children’s Christmas parades and the Holiday in Lights at Centennial Olympic Park.

As expected, when it comes to cool stuff happening in LA, there is plenty going on, especially around Christmas time. If you have kids, head to The Grove’s Christmas which features a tree lighting, live music, fireworks, and maybe even an appearance by Santa.

New York, New York

There can’t be a list of places to see Christmas tree events without listing the party that goes on in New York City. Head to Rockefeller Center on November 30th to see the 2016 lighting event. Stay for ice skating at the rink and enjoy one of the best times of the year in Manhattan.

Austin, Texas


Looking for a 155 foot tree covered with lights and streamers? Well, look no further than Austin, Texas. This year will be the 50th anniversary of the tree lighting ceremony, but that’s not all, during the following weeks the Trail of Lights event will also be going on through December.

Chandler, Arizona

Christmas tree lighting ceremonies and the Arizona desert might not feel like it’s a mix, but you wouldn’t want to miss out on the Tumbleweed Tree Lighting event in Chandler, Arizona. This area comes to life with plenty of lights and parades.

Telluride, Colorado

Thousands of people flock to Colorado every single year for the epic skiing and stay for the natural beauty of the region. One of the best events to check out is the Telluride Ski Tree and Ski Burn where a giant tree made of skis is featured, and a ceremonial ski burn is featured.
