When the average person thinks of Maui, the idealistic swaying palm trees on pristine sand beaches and fruity drinks with tiny umbrellas perched to the side of a coconut cup come to mind. I love the state of Hawaii, each island has a different flavor, but they all have the commonality of the understated, chilled out Hawaiian way of life. Maui is no exception, and if you’re one to want a real taste of the culture you’re visiting and a break from the touristy coastal scene – head Up Country, which lies at the foot of Haleakala Volcano and is the home to poniolos (Hawaiian cowboys).

I lived in Los Angeles for ten years, but never made it to Oxnard. I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to go check out this area for the first time. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought it would be more industrial, but was pleasantly surprised at the warm and inviting, burgeoning travel experience that Oxnard has to offer. With its nautical themes and maritime feel right on the ocean, I was often reminded of other charming locations, like Kemah near the Gulf in Texas, or Marina Del Rey and Venice Beach in Los Angeles The view of Channel Island from the beach was so beautiful at sunset, we were practically moved to tears. The beach was empty, but far from lonely. I was also impressed with all of the local culture, art, talent, cuisine and history that is displayed and easily accessed in this town.
Whether you’re in San Diego, California for a few days or just one and on the hunt for a perfect daycation, staycation or vacation, there’s an endless list of activities available to keep you busy. One in particular can be found by taking a quick water taxi ride straight across the San Diego Bay or a drive across the soaring bridge. This location is known as Coronado, a laid-back beach town that offers powdery sand beaches, family-friendly activities and breathtaking views of the bay side overlooking the San Diego skyline.
When most people think of visiting Florida for vacation they think of theme parks. However, Florida has a lot to offer outside of the tourist center, and that includes our beautiful beaches. The Wyndham Vacation Resort’s Wyndham Royal Vista Pompano Beach, Florida sits directly on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Check-in is a breeze, both figuratively and literally as there are huge palm fronds fanning you at the desk. They are gorgeous and add a sense of style and welcome.
Up and down Florida’s coast you will find beautiful beaches and hidden gems. One of my favorite lesser-known beach havens is Clearwater Beach, Florida. Just a two-hour drive from Orlando, Clearwater Beach has always been known for its powdery, white sandy beaches, beachfront restaurants, and peaceful relaxation. All of those traits are still true, but Clearwater Beach has a new claim to fame too. The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is the home of Winter, the famed dolphin star of Dolphin Tale.
My husband grew up in Rhode Island, and since I’m not from the area when we moved back, I became what is referred to as a “Bride of Rhode Island.” Now that we’ve lived here for a while and have children I understand the reason so many Rhode Islanders who have moved away move back to raise their families. Rhode Island provides an incredible quality of life for raising children, from its many beautiful beaches to its fantastic resources for kids; there is always plenty to keep them entertained. Therefore, I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you.
I recently had the pleasure of my in-laws visiting us for an entire week. Being that it was their first time coming to visit us in Miami, I came up with an itinerary to keep them busy and show them the very best that South Florida had to offer.
The very first thing on my list was a visit down to Key West! How could I not take my desert-dwelling in-laws to the most tropical destination in all of the United States?!
While I’ve spent many a relaxing vacations on the white sandy beaches of Key West, pina colada in hand, my in-laws aren’t what you would consider “drinkers,” so my game plan for their visit had to be a little different than it usually is when we make the trip down the 7 Mile Bridge.
