Lower temperatures don’t necessarily mean the end of fun in the sun. There are plenty of beach destinations that are ideal for a visit any time of year. Go on, put your toes in the sand … the water’s just fine!

Myrtle Beach (South Carolina)

It can get chilly in the evenings here during the fall and winter, but it’s nothing that a sweatshirt can’t fix. This destination can be a madhouse in the summer months, so off-season visitors can luck out with fewer crowds and better rates on accommodations. Kids — or just the young at heart — will get a thrill at any of the surrounding amusement and water parks.

Sanibel Island Beaches & Captiva (Florida)

Double the fun when you travel to these beautiful beaches on the West Coast of the Sunshine State. The barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva, famous for their seashells, provide peace and tranquility along with opportunities for golfing, snorkeling, and wildlife-watching.

Santa Monica Beach (California)

You’ll get more than a place to soak up some rays when you visit this Southern California landmark. With an amusement park — famous for its ferris wheel — and a massive pier with shops and restaurants, it’s a full day of entertainment, food, and fun for all ages.

Juno Beach Park (Florida)

Boasting turquoise waters and a lively fishing pier, this beach is quintessential South Florida. Not only do the temperatures remain balmy throughout the year, but on-site amenities like a bait shop, snack bar, and picnic tables make it easy to enjoy an afternoon here. Plus, visitors can also check out the nearby Loggerhead Marinelife Center, which is home to several rescued sea turtles.

Mission Beach (California)

While the San Diego area has several stretches of sand to choose from, Mission Beach is perhaps the most famous. With plenty of appeal for surfers, swimmers, and sunbathers alike, you can’t go wrong at this SoCal spot. The best part? You only need to take a short walk to enjoy local shops, bars, and restaurants.

South Padre Island (Texas)

This barrier island, popular with spring breakers, can be ideal at off-peak times. You’ll find watersports, horseback riding, fishing, dolphin-watching, and more. If you’re in the mood to rough it, certain areas of the island invite campers to set up shop with their tent or RV as well.
