There’s no doubt that spring is one of the best seasons of the year.  For one, we’re able to enjoy the outdoors again without having to bundle up in layers, and the temperature is usually just right. The trees and flowers are starting to bloom and everything outdoors seems brighter and more vibrant.

However, for some of us, as much as we’d love to enjoy the natural beauty that the spring season offers, there’s usually one very small thing that holds us back from spending hours outdoors on a sunny day – allergies!

You know, the sniffing, sneezing, runny nose, irritated eyes, headache, can’t breath, type of allergies. All from a yellow, powder type substance, also known as Pollen. Ready or not, seasonal allergies are here!

As wonderful as spring could be, those of us who suffer through these allergies can barely walk outside for two minutes without having a series of sneezes and an uncontrollable runny nose. If you fall into this category, there are a few things you can do to ease the symptoms.

1.  Stay inside
We know this is the one thing you don’t want to hear! It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon and you want to go for a walk or work in the garden, right? You can either suffer outside, or give yourself a break and spend as much time indoors as possible. It may not be your favorite thing, but it will be the most effective. There are plenty of fun indoor activities to enjoy this spring. Consider a trip to the museum or shopping mall!

2.  Wear a mask

This also may not be the best choice for you, but it does work to keep you from breathing in the pollen floating around in the air. This is especially effective if you’re planning on spending a long time outside where there are a lot of plants, trees and bushes around.

3.  Take a shower at night
If you take a shower at night, you’re washing out most of the pollen in your hair that was collected throughout the day. This will help you sleep at night so you don’t wake up sneezing. Plus, if you shower at night while traveling, you’ll be ready to explore bright and early the next day!

4.  Try allergy medicine
This is a go-to remedy, and although it does help, just be careful of the possible side effects from allergy medicine. Some may cause you to be drowsy, tired and lethargic. Be sure to purchase a non-drowsy medicine. Remember that different allergy medications work for different people, so it may take a bit of time to find one that works for you.

5.  Keep a cold rag for your face
Believe it or not, if your face feels like it’s on fire from your irritated eyes to your congested nose, nothing feels better than placing an ice-cold towel on your face for a minute or two.
