Summer is all about the road trips, and what better way to see certain parts of the country than heading out to enjoy some of the most unusual summer festivals all over the US. Not only are you going to have some amazing memories, but who doesn’t love a little bit of quirky fun in life?

Plus, festivals like these are perfect to check off your bucket list. So, if you don’t get a chance to see them this summer, start planning for next year. Let’s get started!

Roswell UFO Festival: What’s more quirky than a UFO festival? If you love all things extraterrestrial, then this is the spot to hit. Held in Roswell, New Mexico there are events from 5k’s to costume contests to check out.

Coney Island Mermaid Festival: There’s a lot more to Coney Island than just hot dogs and boardwalks. The Mermaid Festival features a celebrity headed parade, and plenty of amazing people watching to go around.

San Fermin in Nueva Orleans: The Big Easy might be best known for that little festival called Mardi Gras, but for those who don’t want to brave the official running of the bulls in Spain, this event, featuring local roller derby teams dressed as bulls, might be an excellent option.

Humongous Fungus Fest: Not too long ago, a gigantic mushroom was discovered growing in Michigan, and the town decided to celebrate it yearly. The fest features tube floats, golf tournaments, fireworks and of course a humongous mushroom pizza.

Interstate Mullet Toss: Each year, thousands flock to the Florida/Alabama state line to enjoy a huge festival featuring live music, beach games, bikini contests, and of course a mullet fish toss over the state line, it is dubbed the Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party.
