No road trip is ever complete without spending at least a few nights in the great outdoors camping. Not only is it a great way to save some money while on a road trip, it’s a really fun way to see some nature and switch up the scenery a bit.

One of the great things about the U.S. is just how many truly beautiful spots there are all across the country. No matter where your road trip is taking you, chances are you are not going to be very far away from a totally beautiful and pristine camping spot.

So, on your next road trip out, make sure to throw a tent and a few sleeping bags in the trunk for good measure and visit one (or all!) of these must see camping destinations!

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore: Located right on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan Pictured Rocks has colorful cliff faces, crystal clear waters, and over 40 miles of hiking trails making this is a prime camping spot.

Sunol Regional Wilderness: Only minutes outside of the Bay Area of California, Sunol Regional Wilderness is the perfect spot to head to in order to escape a bit of the urban life and seek nature.

Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Reserve: If you are looking for a pristine spot known for its amazing sunsets, Cabeza Prieta in the Arizona desert is certainly the place to go to observe one or two.

Fairy Stone State Park: If you are the type who loves a little bit of a fairy tale to go with your camping, hiking and canoe trips, you are going to want to put Virginia’s Fairy Stone State Park at the top of your list.

Hell’s Gate State Park: For those who are into a bit of an adrenaline rush, why not consider Hell’s Gate for camping and add in a bit of excitement with with a white water rafting adventure on the nearby Snake River.
